New York Nostalgia

Since my trip to that crazy city New York, I have been urged to recreate its chaos. I suppose this is also due to a recent obsession with the work of Richter. Just gonna do a general Google images link for you to see what I'm talking about. It's generally madness with paint/painting madness/mad painting, who knows. I love it, particularly his over painted photographs, which as you can see have inspired me somewhat. If any of you managed to see his Tate exhibition please keep it quiet because I may become very very envious!

Pretty flowers

When I took these photos it was freezing cold and with an angry wind. I think bad weather produces something quite interesting in a photograph of nature. Maybe something a little more than flowers being pretty flowers.

New York City is always alive, a sleepless buzzing city. One of the few places in the world where us humans stand in awe of man-made-mania and feel obliged to eat mcdonalds on holiday. I hope you like this picture.

Nature can be really inspiring. Who'd have thought it, huh? I think we forget to take artistic inspiration from what is right under our noses. And especially when your local public library has a non-existent art section.

I found so many interesting shapes and textures at the Botanical Gardens in Oxford. They will, in good time, be transformed into prints and other fashiony ideas...

The Seeds (cont'd)

This printing technique isn't anything "proper", since it consisted of cutting out small bits of paper with a pen knife, attempting to construct a stencil. (Since I am still in love with Weiwei's seeds) there will be more to come! I'm thinking....lino prints? A series of 9 (reasonably small) varied lino prints arranged in a square :D I love printing!

(Since last post I visited the seeds! They're quite overwhelming.)

The beginning of a new project: Looking at Ai Weiwei's porcelain sunflower seeds (currently at the Tate). Inks and printing are becoming my favourite medium.

1) I have done some printing and some painting of... surprise surprise ~ more skeletons! Shame about the finger prints :S

2) I have started sketchbooking :D

3) And finally, have become obsessed with vintage (mainly 60s) patterns and bought the first of (what I sure will become) a huge collection.

Now I will go and tackle my A levels... x

Birthdays

Despite having to wake up before the clock turned 6:00 (just a little maths exam...), my birthday proved to be a good one. Most of it was spent in Stratford-Upon-Avon, for no particular reason other than I quite like it there: there are plenty of quirky and vintage shops to get lost in. So this post is just a compilation of celebratory outings regarding my 17th; best friends, family, cakes, a chocolatey-waffley mess, (in my book, the most perfect day). The pudding pictures are from an awesome little cafe in Oxford called G&Ds which i totally recommend to anyone who likes dessert, kooky cafes, or something that little bit different. Another great thing about it is that it's open until midnight, making itself ideal for cool kids to hang out eating apple pie and drink milkshake. x

Work Calls

So this is what I spend most of my time doing, or rather, what I need to be doing. So if you don't mind, I shall retreat into an artistic hole for a while, burying myself under screwed up drawings, broken paintbrushes, and a daunting list of drawings that currently only exist within my imagination. Basically, I need to get a move on. Speed up. Less thought, more action. A little less blogging for a week or two. x

Hello readers, and Happy New Year to you! I hope you had fun celebrations; mine was spent with some of my favourite people, mostly being silly and taking silly pictures. So the new year holds many exciting things for me, and for the blog! Being the new year, fresh start etc etc, i thought it'd be quite an apt time to introduce myself properly. So here I am, hiding my face behind a camera because I don't really like myself in photos. Anyway, I'm a 16 year old sixth form student. How uninteresting! x

Here are some lovely little things I got given this Christmas. Firstly, a mini-portable sewing kit from my best friend. Oh she knows me so well - anything Cath Kidson, remotely "vintage" looking, or sewing-related does me just fine! But really, I just love it because it's so cute and everything inside it is "mini" and has a little elastic slot to keep it safe.

Secondly, my lovely friend Hannah, another person who seems to know me incredibly well, bought me a beautiful shiny jewellery box and a rather addictive shade of lipstick, a sort of orangey pink...

Leather gloves...

A booky/film selection, including the QI book of general ignorance, because I am a geek at heart; Cemetery Junction (which I've been meaning to see), and the Monty Python films...

Finally, this bag! which my Grandma bought "for herself" when I was there!

This girl can draw

I recently stumbled upon Luca and her blog and instantly felt totally useless and inadequate. Like me, she is 16, but look at her drawings! I am totally in awe of anyone that skilled with a pen. Illustrations are the one thing I wish I could do. Every line has a purpose, and looks so carefully placed. I recommend following Luca and her blog; she seems to whip up these beautiful drawings real quick.

(This is most frustrating for an art student who spends hours shading with a pencil...) x

Hello my lovely readers, and Merry Christmas to you all :) My day was lovely indeed, spent mostly taking pictures of everything and anything. My new camera is quite addictive. This is my first attempt and set of pictures taken with it, the camera set onto "full auto" for the time being, with a bit of manual focus here and there. I haven't yet had the chance to discover and unleash its full potential yet. Also, I am quite excited to show you some of my pressies soon :) Maybe we'll save that for another post...x

Catherine Campbell Illustrations

Illustrations are the one thing I wish I could do, and how completely adorable are these? There are plenty more to feast your eyes upon; do take a peak at her online portfolio. Catherine Campbell is one talented lady.

I'm quite obsessed with cute illustrations right now and may even have another illustrative themed post lined up for within the next few days - do come back for that! On another note, Christmas is edging closer and closer! I'm hoping to treat myself to a Canon 500d soooon. Call it a Christmas present to myself ;). I'm very much hoping to get my hands on it before Christmas to hopefully get to know some basic settings in time. This should lead to much festive experimental photography. x

Toast is nice, and a fresh start

Dear readers,

Over the past month or two I have been busy.

I hate to admit that my blog took near enough last place in my list of priorities. I love to make lists, but I'm not sure she even found a place on them. I think if my blog was more... established, this wouldn't have happened. Anyway, I'm starting a fresh and I think I know what I'm doing this time round.

I begin with Toast, which has a quaint little shop near where I live. I must say I am a fan of the masculine look. (Those trousers hold an uncanny resemblance to this - I have be told to watch Annie Hall along with so many other things). I recently bought quite a few pairs of trousers but they simply look hideous. Trousers are possibly the hardest thing to shop for. Something from Toast's catalogue that's sticking out for me like a sore thumb (but in a totally good way) are those blue socks. See them? But something else is telling me they wouldn't look as striking with anything other than matching/clashing blue brogues.

I'd love to look that boyish but beautiful, (and to balance an apple on my head).
